Baby, It's Cold Outside
We had planned to post about this earlier this week and then, of course, the weather got crazy warm. And how many people are going to want soup when it's 14 degrees C outside in February? Well, like it or not, Mother Nature has rescued this week's blog topic by taking a whole bunch of "chill pills" and rekindling our desire for a tummy warming soup for lunch or dinner.
Soups can be as simple or as complicated as you want them to be. You can go through multiple complex steps or just throw a bunch of stuff in a pot. This great selection of eight different soups from SoupGirl combines the best of both worlds. Each flavour - Spicy Coconut Lentil,Curried Cashew, Smoky Split Pea, Italian Rice & Lentil, Caribbean Rice n’ Peas Soup, The Detox Soup, Moroccan Lentil Soup and the new Za’atar Lentil Soup - includes its own carefully crafted mix of herbs, spices, grains and/or pulses. All you have to do is add heat, water and time. They're all tremendously delicious and healthy - featuring excellent sources of protein, fibre, iron and more - but feel free to get creative and augment with your own additions if that floats your boat. However, we think you'll like them just the way they are. We know because when the weather starts to turn cold like it did today, these start flying off the shelves.
Apparently Wiarton Willy predicted six more weeks of winter earlier this week so come on in and stock up on the hearty soups in town!
